The Project

Adamson Construction were contracted to transform an unused shingle area at the front of a busy premises to create additional car parking spaces next to the main site parking area and visitors parking.

The work was to be completed on the main entrance/exit road to the staff and visitors car parking area, which was to remain in use, therefore consideration was required to manage the traffic movement and the project was planned to cause minimal disruption to the main parking area. Warning and directional signage and cones were erected by trained personnel around the work area.

The whole area was CAT scanned before any works took place and any cables which were identified were marked and locations passed onto all site personnel.

All personnel wore hi-vis clothing at all times, all mobile plant (mini digger and sit on roller) were operated by trained personnel. Any deliveries of stone and waste away lorries were organised around the shift changes to minimise any disruption and any danger of client’s staff.

All original high-level kerbs were removed and disposed of, along with shingle topping which was removed down to sub-base level. New low-level kerbs were set and concreted into place, level with existing tarmac road level. Crushed concrete was delivered to the site, tipped and spread into place using the mini digger and hand tools. The crushed concrete topping was compacted into place using a sit on vibrating roller; the edges were compacted using a vibrating whacker plate. On completion of the works the site was cleaned, signage and cones were removed and the area handed back to the client for their use.
